Mining unites rural engineering businesses

An innovative approach by three Murraylands heavy engineering businesses to shift their capacity into servicing the expanding needs of the State’s mining sector is reaping rich dividends.

The three companies, Mannum based Horwood Bagshaw, Murray Bridge based Jacksons Australia and Bowhill based Bowhill Engineering have defied the agricultural sector downturn and secured local jobs by the mining sector lifeline.

Country based and agriculturally focused, the three separate family owned engineering firms were each attempting to weather the flow-on impact of a string of difficult farming seasons and a decline in their traditional customer base.

While the mining sector held potential for each of the businesses, as individual firms none of them had sufficient capability to take full advantage of the opportunity.
